Review - Halo: Reach

So, There is this game that you may have heard about.  It was made by this game developer whom you may know of.  I think they have done this sort of thing before.  Perhaps once or thrice.

Do you know what I mean?

Yeah, that's the one.

See, you do know what i'm talking about.

Any way, I have only done a small part of the game, completed the campaign.  Saw a few clips of some Easter eggs that I will now go find.

So feel free to visit Bungie.net and find out more about this win game. Or better yet, make use of that comment feature, Post your own experiences, or questions.

Album Review - The Earlybirds "Favourite Fears"

So with today being August 23, I decided that I would go and get The Earlybirds debut album "Favourite Fears."

Now before I say anything about the band or the album, I feel it necessary to acknowledge my extreme bias. I went to kindy with The Earlybirds frontman Filip Kostovich, I know his parents, they are very good people.

Righty then, onto the album.

I knew that I would love this album well before I toddled down to the local Warehouse, (Thanks Ivan for playing their early singles all those years ago), It also helps that I have been following them since then. But the key factor in why this is a good, nay great album is that I put it on when I got back to the Batcave and everyone commented on how good it was. None of them had heard of The Earlybirds before, but then again, who watches music television unless they are at Unimart.

The album opens with "Cold To The Touch," One of the softer songs of the album. It certainly sets the feeling of epic-ness that will follow though. Followed by "Low." It is most certainly one of the key pieces of the album. Then we get to the bands 3rd single "I Can't Live Without You." Enough Said. "On Your Shoulder" gives you a break from the epic with a softer popy tune. "Truth" kicks it buck up for a faster-paced happy fun time. "Runaway" is the bands original single, very much reminiscent of the bands early years back at the Masonic Tavern in Devonport. "No You In Youth" is the most indie song of the bunch, and with such a catchy name, who could blame them. "Metaphobia" is a song that I listened to the day before the album came out, and instantly I was captivated, such a piece is usually only made by acts much older than The Earlybirds (NB: The album name is a lyric of this song). "I Killed The Dj" was the bands second single, and with the changing flow of the music, its little wonder that they have made it this far. "Kill To Love" is the penultimate track, and it gives us a nice wind down (with lyrics that are a pleasant injection of humour) into "Sleep" an instrumentally heavy track, very slow and befitting of the name it was given, and at 8:52, a very nice close to a very wonderful album

5/5

UPDATE Feb 16 2011:
Just released the offical video for "Truth", Link has been changed.

Ah ha! You thought I was gone lol

Well that was a close one!

To explain why Brian was saying goodbye to me in the previous post, it was because at that stage I might have been jumping camp and leaving the Batcave to go live with the boys at Wintec Student Village. But now I am not!! Hooray!!

I am still not going to be an Admin because I now have my own blog to run, the most awesome Phoenix Den but I'll still post here about all the antics here at the best flat ever :D

So do not fret, there is plenty of White Hot Phoenix to go round ;)

Phoenix out! (but still in)

And The World Shall Burn Till It Is But Dust

So As we approach the end of the current semester it has become apparent that the exam period is upon us.

This is a difficult time for many, not all will succeed, but it is hoped that many, if not most of you, will.

We here at the Batcave wish you all the best for your coming doom. Hope you studied.

But as with all things it appears that some things must come to an end. It is with a sadface that we must farewell Marc "Phoenix" Harper-Holmes from the Administration, but never fear, he may move back to his own blog, but he will still have a place here as an author. I'm sure Marc will chip in to say goodbye before he finally leaves us, but you never know.

That's all from the sole friendly Admin,
Batcave Out.

So Long And Thanks For All The Fish

So the Beta is come and gone,
And my cake seems to be a little off.

But all is okay.  Just one more week of class.  A shitload of tests.
A week of study.
And two of exams.

Then rest, before it all begins all over again.

And Now For Something Completely Different...

Wow, four videos in a row, and now for some text.  Well, things have been quiet of late.  Cynthia spent a week away at tournament.  We lost Marta, and no-one has any real idea why Benji is in Melbourne.

Marc and Paul have become enthralled by Magic: The Gathering.  Paul has one of these, WE WERE NOT PLEASED.

More of my continuing saga has been posted over at The Vercadinan Pulpit.  So go read.

Reach Beta is under-way, and stuff.  I can't think of anything else the internet needs to know so with that;

So long and thanks for all the fish.

P.S.  Benji just arrived home as I type this.

Lets Play: A Story

Well, Its time for a game.

Firstly Imagine if you would a maninte.  I'll wait if you have to go look it up.  Done?  Good.  Now imagine that this maninte is not a maninte but instead a person named Amy.  Got it?

Now for a Story;

Once upon a time, in James Cook High School, there was a girl. This girl was named Shari. Shari liked lip gloss. One day Shari was putting on lip gloss when her friend Amy saw that Shari had some lip gloss and asked, "Can I have some cak- oh I mean lip gloss Shari?"
"Ok" said Shari who then gave her some lip gloss from her finger. Little did Amy know but two of Shari's fingers had a gooey lip gloss like substance on them. One was lip gloss, Shari had used this one. The other finger, the one that Amy used, was...

Now, First person to guess what was on the other finger gets to tell a stupid story, or howabout you all just tell stupid stories.

That is all,
Clean-up of internet trash almost complete,

Unicorn Meat, Other Photos & Assorted Miscellanea

So, What is with the title I hear you ask.  It is simple my dear fellows, I want to show you some pictorial evidence of miscellanea.

First up, Unicorn Meat, or more importantly, cuts of Unicorn.
Yes, that is in fact what parts of a Unicorn are used for.  They do indeed poop rainbows.

Next we have some photos from The Batcave itself.
I'll let you deicide on those ones.  Now for some Assorted Miscellanea.
There we go.  That is all.

Photography ehh...

Hmm side-note first... I think I'll shut down my other blog cause I only seem to post on this one lol might start it back up again sometime at the end of the year...

Anyways, well last night was certainly SUPER SPECIAL AWESOME!!
First off I went to my very first international sport match with Cynthia and Brian, and it was HOCKEY too :D (I love hockey if you didn't know). It was our very own Black Sticks vs Argentina Women
Very awesome match to watch, just another level of play altogether that dropped my jaw several times (skirts didn't help either hehe)

Here's a sample photo I took

After a amazing hour of play we came out on top 3-1 and considering Argentina is currently 2nd and we are 9th, that's an awesome result!

And then the night got better still... It was time for my long awaited photoshoot for Creative Practices. Got to the Hamilton gardens around 9.30pm with my 3 budding models Cynthia, Will, and Larissa, and also Brian as support and all round awesome guy :) And after a good solid hour of shooting (200 photos approx) I got all the shots I needed

It was a privelage to be able to take pictures of all 3 of my models and I think that everyone had a good time and had heaps of fun

Here are some pics that I took, one of each of my awesome superstars :D

<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>

I still have two minor shoots to do now, Cynthia back in her hometown of Tauranga (yay beach!) and also my friend from Matamata, Madi. So there will be plenty of pics to choose from to do my final 3 compositions... yeah 3 is gunna be hard to pick out, so many awesome pics *sigh*

I think Im gunna hit the hay now and catch some sleep, going back home tommorrow sometime so I'll need to have all the energy I can get haha

Phoenix Totally signing out ;)

Unboxing Soul Silver

So, yesterday, Instead of doing some work, I took a wander and got me some Soul Silver.
And then, I took some unboxing photos.

So, here is the box it came in.

And when the box is emptied.
The actual gamebox and pokéwalker.
And the books saying "This PokéWalker, Do Not Wash" and the destructions manual.

I need a camera, the one on my phone just doesn't cut the mustard.  But how would one cut mustard anyways?

Oh well, çest la vie.

I hate Insomnia...

Well its 1.45am right now and I should really get some sleep but meh too much on my mind...

Anyways Iv certainly had an interesting last 3 days lol first off I gave Cynthia her well earned full body massage, that was lots of fun. I dont mind giving massages in exchange for having meals cooked for me hehe. Hmmm maybe I should become a masseuse instead of going into the design industry... Or not haha

And then thursday and friday I had 2 assignments due, and I did them both on the due day. 1 x 1000 word reading commentary on thursday & 3 x drawings in Illustrator + a write up on raster vs vector formats on friday AND I GOT THEM DONE HAHAHAHAHA hahaha ha... yeah it was great.

Haha oh and tonight before... so much fun playing Twister hehe, tho gunna feel sore in the morn lol

Alright Im gunna try and get some sleep (maybe) so Phoenix signing off for now
Good night!

p.s. LOLLIES!!!!!!!!!!! 5 5 5 5 5 5 5... yeah i need to cut down on the sugar... prob why I cant sleep...

Good Movies and Last Minute Work

So, those of us still here at the Batcave went out to see a flick tonight.  We were going to see Tim Burtons Alice in Wonderland, but alas it was to packed.  So, instead, we saw The Road.

I have to say, going into a movie with absolutely no idea what it is about can be both a good and a bad thing.  In this case, it was a good thing.
I will say this only once, once I say Spoiler, that's it.  No turning back.  From here on out its juicy Spoiler Review Time.  Also, watching the film is advised, as I review as if you, my dear reader, have just watched it.

The Road is an emotional film, to keep it simple.  But by no means does that make it a chick-flick.  With shotguns, pistols, apocalyptic ash everywhere and the odd bow and incineration medal, it can definitely keep the most Bay-tastic entertained (but by no means is that an invitation for BayFormers fans to keep living).  I really felt for the Father character, while I can not imagine myself in his position, I do understand how much of a struggle it would have been for him in such a harsh environment.
Oh, and whoever the Director of Photography is, WOW, loved it.

Overall 10/10

Now Last Minute Work.
At the moment I am working on my presentation for 8am in the morning, Its gonna' be hectic, that's for sure.
But hey, that's how I like it.  Oh well, enough blog, back to work.

Creepy Movie

So we just watched Paranormal Activity.  That was mildly scary.  Marc & Cynthia are in the hall just so Cynthia doesn't freak cause of the massive mirror at the foot of her bed.

Hmm, this is gonna' be an interesting night.  And I don't have any large crystals with me, just the one for the car-keys.

Oh well, Cya in the morrow.

Anyways Im just here to complain sickness in general, because it sucks!!
Apart from Marta, who I doubt will get the most recent flu cause she has taken off, I'm the last person to get it. Not a happy camper

Atm its just a blocked nose and sore throat so its livable. I think I'll be able to make it to my music lab :)

Yay for trivia night tonight btw, "Sleepy 6D" should take it out :) or at least we'll all look good in our costume of choice... pajamas. Dunno how much use I'll be in my current state but meh whatever

Okay I think il start my washing and getting sorted for my lab so Phoenix is signing off... Ciao

Update on the lights and stuff

Lighting now works in the kitchen/dining/lounge.  And in my room.

Yay.

Also, I have Beta Access to Lego Universe.  But I'm not allowed to talk about that.  And I haven't even been able to participate in a play Session yet, so I couldn't tell you anything anyway.

Tedious Tuesday

So, I have no lighting in my room.  And there is no lighting in the Kitchen/Dining/Lounge.

There is a reason why this is of course, nothing awesome like a squad of Neptunian Candy-Floss Faeries   stealing our bulbs.  Though that would be bad.  No, it is much more earthly.

It began when Kerry turned on the lights.  One began to flicker like an epileptic watching Denno Senshi Porygon
Of course he decided it would be best to stare into it.  And then in a blinding flash of Blue-White Energy it went out.  So a now blinded Kerry is standing in the dining room, when Dainslayer remarks that the lights don't work any more, not a single one of them.  It looks like we either tripped a breaker, or blew a fuse, probably the latter.  And of course, my room's lights must run from the same fuse.

Not Pleased.

But that's life.

I would like to take this opportunity to welcome our new Admin, Marc.  He will be assisting my other account with the running of this place, even if our only followers are me and my twitter.

Hmm, should work on that one.

Meh, Swords Out.

LOLOL

Yay we now have a blog for our flat, The Batcave! I mean like "omg its like literally so bizzare?!" (bonus points for the reference!) lolol

SpeedShopping

So, we did a grocery shop tonight, and it was almost a "SpeedShopping" experience.  As we get better we may have to acquire a stopwatch.

But anyway, what was I going to say, oh yes that's right.  Banks are slow, and as such the BatCard declined.  Sadface.

Um, Really should put the address of this on the whiteboard so the others can post if they want. Hmm, Get to it when I can.

Well that's me,
Peace Out Dawg

Bloging From The Cave

Ok, so here it is, The Batcave Blog.

Decided to move out of the Vercadinan Pulpit, and will now post blog type stuff here.

In future may also get other authors.

So, anyway, its late at night, as per usual and I'm bloging. Half of us are either sick or just recovering from being sick, and its only the start of autumn. But at least no one has killed anyone, YET.

Trivia Night this week, I hope our flat team does well.

Um, general ramblings, blah blah blah and shit like that.

Oh yeah. Found a Crystal Maverick at Chartwell Farmers. Very nice, never thought I'd find one in NZ though.

Well that's all for now,

Catcha l8rs folks
